Testosterone plays a key role in the maintenance of physical and mental functions in men. Age-related testosterone decline is closely associated with sarcopenia and muscle deterioration, while testosterone decline is linked with the etiology and prevention of diseases such as angina pectoris, arteriosclerosis, obesity, metabolic syndrome, and dementia. Late-onset hypogonadism (LOH) is defined as a disease characterized by age-related testosterone decline and associated clinical symptoms. Testosterone replacement therapy improves health-related QOL in patients with LOH.

本稿の目的は,批判的思考に基づく仮説検定の考え方の指導のあり方を明らかにすることである.初めに,柗元(2018)の「統計的問題解決における批判的思考の働き」の表をもとに,不確実な事象の起こりやすさに着目して問題解決を行う際に働きうる批判的思考とPPDACサイクルとの関係を考察し,3つの活動を提案した.授業実践を通して検証した結果,仮説検定において重要な「確率事象と見なすこと」や「まれと判断する基準」に着目する上で批判的思考が有効に働き,仮説検定の考え方の理解を深める要因になることが明らかになった.

あっという間に1年が過ぎ,昨年12月でこの連載も終わったと,ホッとしていたのもつかの間,編集部からあと1年連載を続けて欲しいとのご依頼があった.有難いお話ではあるが,さてどうしたものかと思ったものの何とかネタを絞りだして,あと6回書き続けてみることにした.読者の皆さんももう少しお付き合い願えれば幸甚である.先日,非常勤講師を務めている九州大学に講義に行き,講義終了後に仲良しの統計の准教授と一緒に透き通ってコリコリとした食感が堪らない“呼子の烏賊の活き造り”を肴に一杯やっていたところ,その准教授の講座の教授,助教として最近2名の英国人が赴任してこられたということを伺った.英国人というので,准教授は,気を利かせて,某有名メーカーの紅茶に,ティーポットとカップのセットを買い込み勇んで待ち受けていたところ,何と2人とも紅茶よりもコーヒー党であったというオチであった.ひとしきり笑ったのだが,考えてみれば,英国では,紅茶よりもコーヒーの歴史の方が古いのである.英国に初めてコーヒーハウスなる店が開店し,コーヒーを提供し始めたのが1650年とされている.オックスフォードでは,1654年に開業したクィーンズ・レイン・コーヒーハウスが現在でも営業を続けているらしい.ロンドンでも1652年からコーヒーハウスが開店し,情報収集の重要な役割を果たすようになる.当時から金融センターであったロンドン・シティの取引所近くのコーヒーハウスには,多くの商人が情報を求めて集まった.その中でも特に,ロイズ・コーヒーハウスには,船主たちが多く集まり,店では船舶情報を載せる「ロイズ・ニュース」を発行していた.店で船舶保険業務を取り扱うようになり,これがロイズ保険会社の起源となった.一方,紅茶は1717年に,イギリスで最初のティー・ハウスであるゴールデン・ライアンズが開店した.インドでアッサム茶の原木が発見されたのが1823年なので,この頃は中国茶が原料であったはずである.その後,大英帝国がインドを支配し,徐々にコーヒーに代わる非アルコール飲料として,紅茶が市民生活に定着していくことになった.

In football, players express their objections to referees’ decisions in the form of “protests” when they are not convinced that the referee’s judgment is correct. Previous studies have shown that protests have several disadvantages. Furthermore, since switching between offense and defense is important in football, moving quickly to the next play without protesting is important. Therefore, this study sought to identify factors associated with protests by football players. Specifically, interviews were conducted with university football players regarding the reasons that they would or would not protest against referees during football matches. Based on the interview results, items were created to measure protests against referees in football games and to measure factors expected to be related to such protests, and a questionnaire survey was conducted using these items. The results showed that players who felt that protests were costly, felt that they could cope well with unsatisfactory judgments made by referees, or who respected referees did not protest very often in various situations in football games.

1995年に京都北部―淡路島西部断面に沿って, 一連の爆破実験がおこなわれた. 明石海峡大橋の基礎部での観測記録はS/N比が乏しいものであったが, 波形処理により, 爆破震源からのS波を求めることができた. そして, 到達時刻のフィッティングで地下のP波速度構造を求めた. 明石海峡大橋直下の地下構造はP波速度5.2-6.0km/sの4つの層から構成されていることがわかった. 本研究で明らかになった地下構造は, およそ30年前の爆破実験で求められた地下構造に較べ, 浅部をより詳細に記述するものとなった.

First, a definition is given for Föhn-type and Bora-type local winds. The Fan is a fall wind on the lee side of a mountain range. When it blows, the air temperature becomes higher than before on the leeward slope. The Bora is also a fall wind on the lee side of a mountain range, but when it begins, the air temperature becomes lower than before on the leeward slope. This definition can be applied regardless of the vertical structure along the cross-section, which is not always easy to observe for every case in the field. Second, the local winds caused by the airflows crossing a mountain range are classified according to the above definition. Third, vertical and horizontal models are illustrated, and descriptions of topography, clouds, precipitation and wind phenomena for the 12 parts from the windward regions to the leeward regions along the cross-section are given in a table. In the second part of the present paper, the impacts of local winds caused by the airflow crossing a mountain range are discussed. The effects of strong wind on the roofs of houses, wind breaks and hedges in the fields and surrounding houses, agricultural cultivation and land use, and windrelated names of places and passes are striking in the regions with strong fall winds on the leeward part as well as on the passes. Human response to such geographical conditions is quite sensitive, and we are able to know the local distribution of strong winds through observing these responses of the local people.

目的 精神障害者施策は,地域生活中心へと進められており,地域における精神障害者の権利擁護支援は重要性を増している。本研究は,地域生活全般の場面において,精神障害者が認識する権利擁護支援が必要な状況と対処方法を明らかにすることを目的とした。方法 質的記述的研究とした。ピアアドボケイト(権利擁護支援を行う精神障害者)13人とその他の精神障害者12人にグループインタビューを実施した。逐語録を作成し,「精神障害者が認識する権利擁護支援が必要な状況とはどのようなものか,どのようにその状況に対処しているのか」という視点で意味のまとまりごとに区切り,コードを作成した。コードを権利擁護支援が必要な場面や相手ごとに分類した後,抽象度を上げ,カテゴリを生成した。結果 精神障害者が認識する権利擁護支援が必要な状況は,場面・相手に分類され,精神科外来,精神科入院,福祉施設,家族や親戚,学校,近所,就労,相談機関で生じていた。精神科外来では【精神科受診にたどり着けない】状況など,精神科入院では【圧力がかかり,逃げられない環境に置かれる】状況など,福祉施設では【利用者同士の恋愛関係を回避しようとされる】状況などがあった。家族や親戚では【病気の自分を理解・受容してもらえない】【劣悪な入院環境や強制入院によって家族関係が悪化する】【精神疾患のために婚姻関係に支障をきたす】状況などがあった。学校では【病気のために学校で孤立する】状況など,近所では【自治会の仕事をなかなか免除させてもらえない】状況など,就労に関しては【病気を伝えて働くが適度な配慮をしてもらえない】状況など,相談機関では【支援者に相談しても我慢を強いられる】状況などがあった。自身による対処方法としては,【転院する】【事業所を変える】など場所から逃げる方法がとられていたが,精神科入院においては【職員に逆らわない】という諦めの対応がとられていた。結論 精神障害者は,精神科医療だけでなく,家族,学校,近所など多様な場面や相手に対して権利擁護支援が必要だと認識していた。精神科病院へのアドボケイト制度の導入,精神疾患好発年齢における精神疾患の正しい知識の普及,合理的配慮の知識と適切な対応の周知などについて取り組みを進める必要性が示唆された。また,積極的な対処を増やすためにピアアドボケイトによる障害者への権利教育を行うことも期待される。

Treatments of species taxonomy for Japanese mammals in “Illustrated Checklist of the Mammals of the World” (CMW) published in 2020 and nine volumes of “Handbook of the Mammals of the World” (HMW) from 2009 to 2019 are compared with those in the second edition of “The Wild Mammals of Japan” (WMJ2) in 2015. Then, the updated taxonomy and current problems of Japanese mammals were discussed. Order Eulipotyphla in CMW and HMW combined orders Soricomorpha and Erinaceomorpha in WMJ2, and Order Cetartiodactyla in CMW joined orders Artiodactyla and Cetacea in HMW and WMJ2; both in reflecting the recent molecular phylogenetic studies. A comparative list of the species names of Japanese mammals between CMW and WMJ2 was made, also with reference to descriptions and literatures in HMW. In CMW, 160 species are found in Japan, and 21 species of them had species names different from WMJ2. Concerning about these species and about species necessary for special consideration in species taxonomy or geographic range, 34 comments were provided for discussion.

現在, クオーク線則(quark line rule)は素粒子論で最近発見されたψまたはJの安定性を説明するのに有効なだけでなく, φメソンやf'メソンを含む種々の散乱実験の結果やそれ等のdecay の幅等の説明にも役立ちます. この規則の奇妙な点は, 100%完全である事が原理上, 不可能である事です. また, この規則は素粒子のクオーク模型と大変密接な関係があります. このような事実を, 歴史的な見地からここに解説します. 現在の所, クオーク線則は多分量子クロモ力学(quantum chromo dynamics)で説明され得る可能性が一番大きいと考えられて居ります.

人口減少社会では、消火能力の確保と残留塩素濃度の確保がトレードオフの関係であるように、管網再 構築において従来型手法の踏襲だけでは対応が難しいものがあり、新たな考えを加え適応させていく必要がある。 本論文が導き出すのは、人口減少社会においてのトレードオフの関係も含まれる複数の要求事項である課題を複 合して達成できる具体的な手法である。管路の特徴として経済的、能力的なスケールメリットがあるが、実際の 管網の口径割合と組み合わせて検討し、この特徴を最大限に発揮させることで管網の水輸送能力(バックアップ 能力の向上、残留塩素の確保、直結給水区域の拡大、消火用水の確保)と経済性(総費用の抑制)を両立できる ものである。これは幹線の水輸送能力を維持または強化し、その能力によって末端側を減径する事で成り立つも のである。本論文では理論証明のほか、実管網のデータを用いたシミュレーションによって効果を検証した。また、 複数の要求事項の達成を目的とした水理解析は、より多くの作業時間が必要となることから、解析技術の効率化 を併せて研究し成果を得た。

Although mind-wandering and awareness are contrary concepts, both are positively correlated with creative problem solving. To understand this contradiction, we examined how mind-wandering and awareness are related to the three aspects of creativity: fluency, flexibility, and originality. We used psychological scales to measure mind-wandering and awareness, and the Unusual Uses Test to measure the three aspects of creativity. Data from 532 participants (300 male, 228 female, and 4 unknown; Mage=19.67, SD=1.44 years) were analyzed. The results of a multiple regression analysis showed an inverted U-shaped relationship between mind-wandering and uniqueness scores of originality. An ANOVA analysis showed that participants in the medium mind-wandering group scored higher than those in the low mind-wandering group. In contrast, mind-wandering and evaluative scores of originality showed a U-shaped relationship, and participants in the medium mind-wandering group scored lower than those in the low mind-wandering group.

ここ20年,特にスポーツ選手がセルフケアとしてフォームローラーを行う場面を多く見る。しかし,その効果については十分明らかになっていなかった。そこで我々は若年者を対象に即時的および長期介入効果の検討,また実際の理学療法現場を想定して損傷筋(遅発性筋痛)に対する効果の検討を行った。その結果,通常のフォームローラー介入では関節可動域は増加する一方,筋硬度の指標である筋弾性率に有意な変化は認められなかった。しかし,振動療法を同時にできる振動付きフォームローラー介入では特に筋腹部分を刺激することで筋弾性率が減少する可能性を示すことができた。また損傷筋に対するフォームローラー介入においても疼痛や関節可動域の改善効果が認められる結果となった。以上より,今後,臨床現場でフォームローラー介入がストレッチングに変わって用いる有用性を示唆することができた。
