18-Methyleicosanoic acid (18-MEA) is an unusual branched-chain fatty acid that is covalently bounded, possibly via a thioesteroresterlinkage, to the cuticle surface of hairfiber s. It is also known that the lipid layermakes the hairsur face hydrophobic and acts as a boundary lubricant to decrease friction resistance. 18-MEA can be easily removed; however, underalkaline conditions such as in the presence of hairbleach orper manent waving, the hairsur face becomes hydrophilic and the friction increases. The absence of 18-MEA may influence the sensory perception of hair, making it feel dried or hard to finger/comb through. We also found that exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation affects 18-MEA on hair surface using Time of Flight Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry (TOF-SIMS). We therefore think it is important to study the damage to boundary lipids caused by the external stimuli in daily life. A technology for the deposition of a persistent hydrophobicity to bleached hair surfaces using 18-MEA is reviewed. It was found that the combination of 18-MEA with specific cationic surfactants system makes the bleached hair surface hydrophobic, and its hydrophobicity is maintained even after shampooing. Characterization of adsorbed layers on a mica surface was performed using Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM). The results revealed that system formed an uniform layer with high wear resistance.

境界性パーソナリティ障害(BPD)への効果的な治療法が、内省機能(メンタライジング)に基づく治療として考案され、世界的に注目されている。内省機能とは、自己と他者の心理状態を振り返る能力のことである。内省機能を測定する質問紙であるReflective Functioning Questionnaire (RFQ)がFonagyらによって開発され多くの言語で翻訳されているが、日本語版は開発されていない。本研究の目的はRFQの日本語版の開発および妥当性と信頼性の検討である。RFQを日本語に翻訳し、BPDを対象として、因子構造、内的整合性、構成概念妥当性を検討する。

変形性関節炎に伴う膝の慢性疼痛は患者のQOLを左右しており、疼痛の仕組み解明とその抑制が大きな課題である。私たちはマウスのモノヨード酢酸(MIA)誘起膝関節炎モデルにおいて、培養肥満細胞(BMMC)の関節への移入が痛みを引き起こすことを発見し、この系を用いて痛み発生機構解明に取り組んできた。膝の痛みの定量的測定のために、自由行動中のマウスを観察し、両前肢を壁に当てて全立ち上がる回数のうち未処理の下肢のみで立ち上がる回数の割合を求めた。この方法ではVon Frey法では検出できない痛みの変化を観察できた。注射したBMMCが関節内に留まっていることを確認するため、GFP-Tgマウスから作成したBMMCを注入し、GFPとmMCP6(トリプターゼ)の抗体染色で陽性を示す細胞が関節内に存在することを確認した。MIA未処理の関節にBMMCを移入しても痛みを誘起しないので、痛み誘起には関節内炎症によるBMMCの活性化が必要である。脱顆粒した肥満細胞から放出されるトリプターゼは神経細胞のPAR2受容体を活性化することが知られている。痛み誘起へのトリプターゼの関与を確かめるため、PAR2のアンタゴニスト存在下でBMMCを移入したところ、BMMCのみに比べて痛みが顕著に低下した。PAR2のアゴニストをBMMCの代わりに注入したときはPBS注入の対照よりも痛みが増加した。よってトリプターゼが痛みの誘起に中心的な役割を果たしていることが推定された。免疫組織化学により、PAR2受容体は主に表層の軟骨細胞と軟骨膜で発現しており、MIA処理で発現強度が増加した。BMMC移入による痛み誘起に伴い、炎症性サイトカインIL-1b、IL-6,TNF-αおよび痛み関連因子NGF、CGRPの発現が上昇した。アンタゴニス存在下でBMMCを移入したときは痛み誘起が抑制されるとともにこれらの遺伝子発現が低下した。

難消化性糖質であるラクトスクロース(Lactosucrose; LS-98)を健常成人および大腸疾患術後患者に投与し,光岡の方法に準じて腸内細菌叢の変化を検討した.その結果,ラクトスクロースは健常成人に対してビフィズス菌増殖因子として作用し,また大腸疾患術後患者に対しては,ビフィズス菌パランスが低下している腸内環境を早期に改善する傾向が明らかとなった.難消化性糖質であるラクトスクロース投与は,術後の腸内環境を改善し,手術侵襲からの早期回復をはかることが示唆された.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between quality of removable dentures and nutrient intake in the elderly. Subjects were 323 community dwelling, independently living elderlypeople (174 males and 149 females) aged 60-79, of which the mean age was 66.3±4.3 years.Diet was assessed by licensed dietitians via interview for 3 days. The data on food consumption were converted to the nutrient content such as energy (kcal), protein, and calcium. The ratio of actual nutrient intake per recommended nutrient intake was evaluated as a measure of dietary adequacy. Student's t-test, Mann-Whitney U-test, and one-way ANOVA were used for statistical analysis.The nutrient intake, except iron, was sufficient in both dentate and denture wearer groups. Among removable denture wearers, nutrient intake tended to be lower in the low occlusal force group than in the high group. There were significant differences in protein and iron intake in males between the two groups (p<0.05), and the nutrient intake also tended to be lower in the group dissatisfied with removable denture than in the group satisfied therewith.The results indicated that both occlusal force and satisfaction with removable dentures were associated with nutrient intake of elderly people.

私が西南学院中等部(修業年限5年制)に入学した1944(昭和19)年は太平洋戦争も末期で、間もなく上級生は学徒動員の「通年実施」で工場に動員され、学校は我々一年生だけとなった。しかし残された我々もやがて勤労奉仕や農家作業で満足な授業は出来なくなっていた。以下の文で中等部に関するものは主として私自身の体験で、高等部(専門学校)に関するものはグリークラブ40周年誌や先輩諸氏の体験を直接、間接に聞き、記したものである。

飼育下20頭および野生9頭のエゾヒグマを対象に, 塩酸ゾラゼパムと塩酸チレタミンの混合薬の効果と有効量を検討した。その結果, 不動化に必要な薬用量は飼育個体で3.52±1.53, 野生個体では3.75±1.57mg/kgと十分に少量であった。また, 不動化されたクマは十分に脱力しており, 飼育個体については覚醒も速やかであった。エゾヒグマに対してこの薬物の組み合わせが有効であることが示唆された。

In this paper, a model describing pedestrian behavior was constructed, and estimated using the behavior monitoring survey data (behavior data), which was conducted on a university campus square. We analyzed behavioral characteristics and factors of various choice behaviors. Specific results are as follows. (1) First, we conducted a pedestrian behavior monitoring survey on a university campus square using multiple video cameras. In order to convert the pedestrians' position coordinates on the still screen extracted from the video images into position coordinates on a two-dimensional plane, a novel method was developed based on the neural network model, and detailed pedestrian behavior monitoring survey data including attribute information was created. Using this behavior data, we performed a basic analysis on the pedestrian behavior, and clarified the characteristics of pedestrians' destinations and selected routes. (2) Next, we constructed a multinomial logit model that describes the behavior of selecting canteens as a destination, the behavior of selecting a place to stay at the campus square, and the behavior of selecting routes when moving. Each model was estimated using the behavior data, and good description accuracy was confirmed for each model. The estimated parameters of each model showed that the floor area of canteen has a strong effect when selecting a canteen, the positional relationship with the shortest path affects the choice of staying place, and that the resistance of walking distance is affecting route choice. Furthermore, by estimating models for each group size of pedestrians walking together, it was shown that a group with larger number of pedestrians select a canteen with the larger floor area of canteen due to the possibility of available chairs and tables. (3) Finally, we integrated the models and simulated the pedestrian behavior to estimate the pedestrian behavior in the entire university campus square. By comparing the frequency of traffic in each passage based on the behavior data, it was shown that the behavior of pedestrians in the entire square is accurately estimated by the pedestrian behavior simulation. The future development and issues of this model are summarized as follows. Although the model constructed in this paper was able to describe the behavior data of the specific university campus square, it has not been verified yet whether it can be applied to other university campus squares. If the season or weather are different, the behavioral characteristics are expected to be significantly different. It is our future work to study the applicability and expandability of the models by increasing observation data. Furthermore, in this paper, destination points other than the canteens were directly estimated from the selection ratio obtained from the behavior data without modeling. It is necessary to extend the models to a simulation that can describe more detailed pedestrian selection behavior. Finally, the current model does not consider the interaction among pedestrians (such as overtaking, avoiding, and passing). It is necessary to improve the model so that it takes into account the influence of other pedestrians.

The prevalence of Toxoplasma gondii infection in free-ranging cats on Tokunoshima Island was assessed by testing 125 serum samples using anti-T. gondii IgG Indirect Enzyme-Linked ImmunoSorbent Assay. The overall seropositivity rate was 47.2% (59/125). Seropositivity rates in cats with body weight >2.0 kg (57.4%) were significantly higher than in those with body weight ≤2.0 kg (12.5%, P<0.01). Analysis of the number of seropositive cats by settlement revealed the presence of possibly-infected cats in 17 of 23 settlements, indicating the widespread prevalence of T. gondii on the island. This is the first study to show the seroprevalence of T. gondii in free-ranging cats on Tokunoshima Island. The information revealed in this paper will help to prevent the transmission of T. gondii among cats and also in both wild and domestic animals and humans on the island.
