この研究は「数学することとは,きわめて身体的な行為であろう」という予想のもとに,数学研究者たちの会話・身体動作から,彼らが数学的対象をどのように扱って研究を進めているかを明らかにしようとするものである。分析からは,現実世界には具体的な対応物のない概念に対しても,身体的と呼びうる操作がおこなわれているさまを見ることができた。

本研究では,自発的職務改善が,情緒的組織コミットメントとキャリア開発志向の2つの就業態度および,上司エンパワーメント,上司の統制的管理,組織エンパワーメント,キャリア開発支援,業績主義評価の5つの就業環境によって規定されるという仮説に基づいて,構造モデルが構成された。5つの企業の従業員372名に対する質問紙調査のデータを用いた共分散構造分析によって,このモデルの妥当性を検討した結果,自発的職務改善に対して,キャリア開発志向と上司エンパワーメントから正の影響が見られ,業績主義評価から負の影響が見られた。組織エンパワーメントと情緒的組織コミットメントは,キャリア開発志向を高めることを通して,間接的に自発的職務改善に影響を与えることが示された。最後に,本研究を通して明らかになった知見の妥当性と課題について考察を行った。

三重県英虞湾における夜間灯火採集のプランクトン試料中より得られた6種のモンストラ科橈脚類を記載した.これらはMonstrilla serricornis, Monstrilla sp., Cymbasoma longispinosum, C. rigidum, C. morii, C. agoenisである.この中でC. agoensisは新種であり,M. serricornis, C. longispinosum, C. rigidumの3種は日本近海より未報告の種であるM. serricornisは第1アンテナの特異な鋸歯状突起,C. longispinosumは交接器の形態,C. rigidumは第5胸脚の形態と刺毛数,C. moriiは透明な体部と第5胸脚の刺毛数,C. agoensisはoral coneの欠如と第5胸脚の刺毛数によって他種と明瞭に識別できる.

Tetanus toxoid, reduced diphtheria toxoid, and acellular pertussis (Tdap) vaccine is generally used for booster vaccination of infants in Europe and the United States to avoid increased reactogenicity after diphtheria and tetanus toxoids and acellular pertussis (DTaP) vaccination. However, Japan has extended the use of additional DTaP vaccination without reducing the antigen dose for diphtheria and pertussis in adolescents and adults, despite limited reports on its safety in adults. This prospective, observational, questionnaire-based study investigated the occurrence of adverse events (AEs) following DTaP vaccination between June 2018 and June 2019 in participants aged 10 years or older. Of the 250 eligible participants, 235 (94%) responded regarding AEs. Among them, 133 (56.6%) reported AEs, of which 39 reported systemic AEs (16.6%) and 120 reported local AEs (51.1%) attributed to DTaP vaccination. The incidence of local AEs was markedly higher with DTaP vaccination than with non-DTaP vaccination (51.1% vs. 10.5%), and AEs appeared later (P < 0.01) and lasted longer (P < 0.01) with DTaP vaccination. However, more than 75% of these AEs resolved within 7 days. DTaP vaccination was not associated with any serious AEs. These results indicate that the DTaP vaccine can be widely used as a booster in adults as an alternative to the Tdap vaccine.

Background This study aimed to examine the effects of nurses’ work–life balance (WLB), job demands and resources, and organizational attachment on their work engagement (WE). The second aim was to shed light on whether the relationships among WLB, job demands, resources, and WE are modulated by organizational attachment.Methods In total, 425 nurses working in a university hospital responded to the questionnaire. The primary statistical analysis method was hierarchical multiple regression with WE as the dependent variable.Results In the model in which all variables were applied, affective commitment (AC) (β = 0.41), family-to-work positive spillover (β = 0.25), and number of children (β = 0.13) were found to have a significant association with WE. Family-to-work negative spillover (FWNS) and AC had significant interaction effects. The result suggests that when AC was low, WE tended to decline further due to FWNS; however, when AC was high, WE did not change due to the effect of FWNS.Conclusion These results confirmed that to improve nurses’ WE, hospital organizations should implement initiatives to facilitate WLB that considers nurses’ household roles. Furthermore, high organizational attachment buffered the home’s negative influence on work, thereby helping nurses work energetically.

Secondary cell walls (SCWs) accumulate in specific cell types of vascular plants, notably xylem vessel cells. Previous work has shown that calcium ions (Ca2+) participate in xylem vessel cell differentiation, but whether they function in SCW deposition remains unclear. In this study, we examined the role of Ca2+ in SCW deposition during xylem vessel cell differentiation using Arabidopsis thaliana suspension-cultured cells carrying the VND7-inducible system, in which VND7 activity can be post-translationally upregulated to induce transdifferentiation into protoxylem-type vessel cells. We observed that extracellular Ca2+ concentration was a crucial determinant of differentiation, although it did not have consistent effects on the transcription of VND7-downstream genes as a whole. Increasing the Ca2+ concentration reduced differentiation but the cells could generate the spiral patterning of SCWs. Exposure to a calcium-channel inhibitor partly restored differentiation but resulted in abnormal branched and net-like SCW patterning. These data suggest that Ca2+ signaling participates in xylem vessel cell differentiation via post-transcriptional regulation of VND7-downstream events, such as patterning of SCW deposition.

The triplefin genus Ceratobregma Holleman, 1987 includes two valid species, the Spotted Spiny-eye Triplefin C. acanthops (Whitley, 1964) and Helen’s Triplefin C. helenae Holleman, 1987. Both are characterized by the first dorsal fin having 3 spines, the anal fin 2 spines, and the pelvic fin with one spine and 2 rays, in addition to discontinuous lateral lines (upper series of tubular pored scales and lower series of notched scales), well developed lateral ethmoids, 3 or 4 spines on the anterior margin of the orbit in males, and a scaleless opercle and pectoral-fin base. Ceratobregma acanthops is known only from the Coral Sea, whereas C. helenae is widely distributed in the eastern Indian and western Pacific oceans. A single specimen (KAUM–I. 146836, 24.3 mm standard length) of C. helenae collected from Kume-jima Island, Okinawa Islands, Ryukyu Archipelago, Japan in October 2020 possessed the following characters: first spine of 1st dorsal-fin shorter than that of 2nd dorsal-fin; caudal peduncle narrow; sides of body with orange vertical bands; and 2nd dorsal fin with a basal series of orange spots. Previous records of the species from Japan include a single specimen (BPBM 8723, 29.6 mm standard length) collected from Taketomi-jima Island, Yaeyama Islands in 1968, and underwater photographs (as Ceratobregma sp.) taken at Irabu-jima and Miyako-jima Islands, Miyako Islands, in 2002 and 2004, respectively. The two Japanese specimens were examined, that from Kume-jima Island (described in detail) representing the northenmost record for the species. The new standard Japanese name “Mikan-hebigimpo” is proposed for C. helenae on the basis of the Kume-jima specimen, “Mikan-hebigimpo-zoku” serving for the genus Ceratobregma.

好酸球性胃腸炎の原因は明らかとはなっていないが,Th2反応をおこしやすい個人が食物抗原等に反応して消化管でのIL-5,-13,-15,eotaxin等のサイトカインの産生が高まり好酸球やマスト細胞が活性化されて消化管上皮に傷害をおこすアレルギー疾患であると考えられている.本疾患は40歳頃を発症ピークとし男女共にほぼ同様に発症するが,喘息などのアレルギー歴を有する例が多い.主訴は腹痛と下痢であることが多く,末梢血白血球の増加や好酸球の増加を80%以上の例でみとめる.粘膜に病変を有する例では内視鏡検査で,びらん,発赤,浮腫などをみとめるが,内視鏡検査では確定診断はできず複数個の生検が必須である.漿膜下に病変のある例では腹水をみとめ腹水中に好酸球を多数みとめる.治療はグルココルチコイドが主となるが,減量・中止後に再発をきたしやすく,減量を補助するため種々の抗アレルギー薬が使用されることがあるが,その有効性に関するエビデンスは十分ではない.

[Purpose] The purpose of this review is to compare the effect of McKenzie and stabilization exercises in reducing pain and disability in individuals with chronic nonspecific low back pain. [Methods] A systematic literature review of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were performed using 6 databases. The quality of reviewed articles were assessed by the risk of bias using the Cochrane collaboration’s tool. [Results] A total of 829 articles were found from the databases, of which 10 were finally selected to be included in this review. The overall risk of bias assessment indicated that the risk of bias was low in one study and high in the other nine studies. One study reported reduced pain and two studies reported reduced functional disability in the McKenzie exercise group compared to other exercises. Two studies reported reduced pain and three studies reported reduced functional disability in the stabilization exercise group compared to other exercises. In two studies, the stabilization exercise group was as effective as McKenzie exercise group in reducing pain and functional disability in patients with chronic nonspecific low back pain. [Conclusion] Only two studies compared stabilization and McKenzie exercises in the management of chronic nonspecific low back pain. Therefore, insufficient evidence is available to draw any conclusive comparison on the effects of McKenzie and stabilization exercises in chronic nonspecific low back pain. However, both McKenzie and stabilization exercises was better than conventional exercise programs in reducing functional disability in patients with chronic nonspecific low back pain.

Special attention must be paid to the fill construction where coal ashes are used because they have particular geotechnical properties.Coal ashes are sandy coarse silt and have no plasticity. They have such small specific gravity as 2.1. Compacted coal ashes have strong shearing resistance at the optimum moisture content, but loose coal ashes have the risk of liquefaction when they are saturated.In Hisasue valley in Kawasaki city, an extensive flow slide of fill construction where coal ashes were used occurred in June, 1965. The fill consisted of loose dumping ashes and it collapsed just when it had been saturated by the seeping groundwater to the critical state.In Hodogaya in Yokohama city, a large fill construction has been built with coal ashes with special attention paid to the drainage of groundwater and to the compaction of fill material. The work has proved a success.

This study investigates how the collection and study of folklore in socialist Vietnam contributed to the Communist Party of Vietnamʼs and the governmentʼs cultural policy. It focuses on the Sino-Vietnamese terminology used in the folklore studies of socialist Vietnam and explains their changes in relation to cultural policy. From the end of the 1950s, the collection of folk literature (van hoc dan gian) was promoted in provincial areas because of the Partyʼs mass cultural policy. There, both politicians and scholars recognized that the collection of folk literature could not be separated from the collection of folk arts. This led them to introduce the term van nghe dan gian (VNgDG), a phrase that combines the terms for folk literature and folk arts, to reorganize the collection. In the late 1970s, the Party strengthened its control over the cultural sphere to abolish traces of the “old regimes.” It thought that VNgDG contained many “old” elements that needed to be modified into more appropriate ones. And as China-Vietnam relations critically worsened at the end of the 1970s, VNgDG was finally criticized as being of “no use” because of its Chinese oriented content and methodology. On the other hand, scholars had to highlight the tradition of “Vietnamese culture” in order to confront the “long-lasting Chinese culture,” which led them to approach folklore from a historical perspective. At the same time, some scholars commented that VNgDG had become too “socialized” and emphasized the importance of scientific research on folklore. Consequently, they began to use the new term van hoa dan gian (VHDG), which literally means folk culture, to rejuvenate folklore studies. Currently, after the Law of Cultural Heritage was issued in 2001, the popularization of the concept of “intangible cultural heritage” (di san van hoa phi vat the) has made the status of the term “VHDG” unstable.

Most of organisms living on the earth have internal clocks and thus, the circadian rhythm represents a basic feature of life. In mammals, as in other many organisms, the cellular circadian core oscillator is thought to be composed of an autoregulatory transcription-(post)translation-based feedback loop involving a set of clock genes. The signal transduction cascade originating from this core oscillatory loop induces the expression of a variety of genes in a circadian fashion, and regulates many cellular functions such as cell division and energy metabolism. This cell oscillation system localizes in most of cells in the body. The circadian system has evolved in a close connection to light which synchronizes the internal phase to environmental rhythms. In mammals, the master clock is located in the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) of the hypothalamus, from which clock signals are transmitted through neuronal and hormonal oscillation conducting systems to the whole body. Arrived clock signals entrain the cell-clocks in peripheral organs, and the intracellular oscillating loop coordinates the timing of the expression of a variety of genes with specific cellular functions. Thus, the mammalian clock system displays a multidimensional complex structure constituting the central oscillator, oscillation conducting systems, and peripheral cellular oscillators.
