Objectives: To achieve better outcomes, neuromuscular and biomechanical factors should be considered in rehabilitation after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction. In this study, we investigated the feasibility and safety of a wearable exoskeleton robot suit [known as the single-joint hybrid assistive limb (HAL-SJ)] and whether knee training using this device could improve functional outcomes after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction.Methods: HAL-SJ-assisted knee extension and flexion exercises were commenced in 11 patients 18 weeks after reconstruction; exercises were performed once a week for three weeks at a frequency of five sets of ten repetitions. Patients were monitored for HAL-SJ-related adverse events. Physical evaluations were conducted before and after HAL-SJ training. Surface electromyography of the quadriceps and hamstring muscles was performed in 4 of the 11 patients during each session and the muscle co-contraction index was calculated.Results: The peak muscle torque was higher at all velocities after HAL-SJ training. The active range of motion significantly increased in both extension and flexion, and the range of motion in passive flexion significantly increased. The Tegner Activity Scale and Lysholm Knee Questionnaire scores also significantly increased after knee HAL training. The muscle co-contraction index during extension tended to be lower after HAL-SJ training. No adverse events were observed.Conclusions: The findings of this study indicate the feasibility and safety of HAL-SJ training as a neuromuscular rehabilitation tool after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction. The knee HAL-SJ training may have contributed to these results from a neurophysiological perspective by lowering the co-contraction of knee muscles, which would correct impairment of the antagonistic or synergistic muscles.

The purpose of this paper is to illustrate some common features of social business and social issues management. First, we compare business view. Yunus has the same view of business with Friedman. They assume a business objective is the maximization of profit. Yunus regards social business objective as resolution of social issues. In management theory, some researchers conclude resolution of social issues is compatible with maximization of profit. Secondly, we identify cases of social business and social issues management. Both social business and social issues management cooperate with other business corporations and NGOs to resolve social issues. Social business intends to resolve issues as poverty, education, health and the environment. It takes very long time to solve these problems. Business corporations engage in social issues related their stakeholders.

目的とするタンパク質の生体内での機能を明らかにする上で,生体試料の抽出液からそのタンパク質を含む複合体を免疫沈降し,沈降物を酵素消化後に質量分析する方法(免疫沈降-質量分析法,以下IP-MS法)は有用である.IP-MS法によって目的タンパク質の様々な翻訳後修飾や,その相互作用タンパク質を大規模に同定・定量することが可能である.著者らは細胞質タンパク質・核内タンパク質・膜タンパク質・細胞外タンパク質など,多様なタイプのタンパク質を対象としてIP-MSを多数行ってきており,実験プロトコルを最適化してきた.その結果,従来の免疫沈降物をウェスタンブロット解析する場合などと比較して,IP-MSを行う際の免疫沈降では様々なステップの条件を変更した方が良いことが分かってきた.そこで本稿では,プロテオミクスを専門としない研究者にとっても重要である,免疫沈降の操作から消化ペプチドの調製までのステップを中心に紹介したい.

言語の発達に遅れがない自閉症者と定型発達者の間でコミュニケーションが成り立つ場合と成り立たない場合の違いについて、その論理の違いを説明するため、数理論理学の手法を用いた数理モデルを提示する。自閉症者と定型発達者の間のコミュニケーションの実例を挙げて、双方の論理を構築した数理モデルの枠組みで具体的に説明する。コミュニケーションが成り立つ場合と成り立たない場合が起こるのは、双方の論理から導かれる理論の相違によるものであり、それは状況と言語の間の関係から生じるものである。このことを利用することによって、両者のコミュニケーション成立のための具体的な方法を説明でき、またその新たな方法を考えることができることを明らかにする。

Citrus nursery trees in California must be grown in insect exclusion facilities to protect them against Huanglongbing (HLB), a deadly disease caused by Candidatus liberibacter spp. and spread by the Asian citrus psyllid (Diaphorina citri). Faster year-round propagation is critical for citrus nurseries to offset their investment in new exclusion facilities, but nurseries currently face serious problems in terms of poor bud push and slow scion growth in fall-budded, container-grown trees. The purpose of this study was to explore the effect of supplemental LED lighting techniques on the photosynthesis and total non-structural carbohydrate (TNC) partitioning within citrus trees that is responsible for growth cessation during the fall. A total of 72 trees of Carrizo citrange rootstock with and without Clementine Mandarin scions, were placed in growth chambers during four photoperiods: T1, 10 h LED + 4 h extension of day length (EoD, 10 μmol·m−2·s−1); T2, 10 h LED with 1 h supplemental night interruption (NI); T3, 10 h LED with 10 h supplemental far-red (FR) lighting; and T4, controls (10 h LED). The LED light spectrum was adjusted to 90 red and 10 blue ratios. The trees were grown in the growth chambers at 21/13°C day/night temperatures and 80% RH for 12 weeks. Trees were harvested and separated into leaves, stems, and roots at the end of the experiment. Different tissues were oven dried, ground and analyzed for TNC. The results showed that NI and EoD resulted in significantly higher plant growth. Both NI and EoD allowed trees to accumulate lower levels of carbohydrates in the root system, thereby decreasing the root: shoot ratio. NI and EoD trees had lower root: shoot ratios for TNC than control and FR trees in both budded and unbudded trees, suggesting the storage of reserves in roots can be enhanced during shorter day length. Results also showed that NI and EoD photoperiods triggered phytochrome with low light intensity, which in turn induced a long day effect and further translocation of reserves from roots to aboveground parts to improve vegetative growth.

The growth and quality of the fruit from adult ‘Fuyu’ and ‘Hiratanenashi’ Japanese persimmon (Diospyros kaki Thunb.) trees that were grafted onto D. kaki seedlings (S), Rootstock-a (R-a), ‘MKR1’, and own-rooted (O-R) trees planted in February 2003 were observed from 2015 to 2021, when almost all of the trees entered stable, high-productive phases and the fruit quality was stable. The trees that were grafted onto ‘MKR1’ were still dwarfed but produced fruit efficiently. After disbudding took place, in the first half of stage I of the double sigmoid growth curve there was a certain period of time when the fruit of the ‘Hiratanenashi’ trees that were grafted onto ‘MKR1’ was lighter than the trees that had been grafted onto S. However, in the second half of stage I, the fruit of the former was heavier than that of the latter, and the flesh cells of the former were larger than that of the latter. In stage II and III, the fruit of the latter grew faster and became significantly heavier just before the harvest. The fruit growth of the ‘Fuyu’ trees that were grafted onto R-a was retarded compared to the growth of trees that were grafted onto ‘MKR1’ throughout most of the growing period. Heavy disbudding (HD) effectively increased the fruit weight of the ‘Hiratanenashi’ trees that were grafted onto ‘MKR1’ in a certain time period in stage I and in stage III compared to normal disbudding. HD also improved the fruit growth of the ‘Fuyu’ trees that were grafted onto ‘MKR1’, although this was not as effective as the ‘Hiratanenashi’ fruit growth. The weight of the harvested ‘Fuyu’ trees’ fruit increased in the following order: R-a, ‘MKR1’, O-R, and S. The ‘Hiratanenashi’ trees that were grafted onto ‘MKR1’ had the lightest fruit among the rootstocks, but the HD treatment for the trees that had been grafted onto ‘MKR1’ increased the fruit weight, and the difference disappeared. The soluble solids concentration of ‘Fuyu’ fruit was the highest in ‘MKR1’ and the lowest in R-a. ‘Hiratanenashi’ fruit had the highest concentration of soluble solids in S and the lowest concentration in O-R. The level of firmness of ‘Fuyu’ fruit flesh was the hardest in ‘MKR1’ and the softest in R-a, whereas the level of firmness of ‘Hiratanenashi’ fruit was the same among the rootstocks. Although the a* value of ‘Fuyu’ fruit skin color was the same among the rootstocks, the a* value skin color of ‘Hiratanenashi’ fruit was the highest in ‘MKR1’ and R-a and the lowest in S. These results suggest that the persimmon rootstock partly affects growth and quality of the fruit, although there are differences in the reactions between scion cultivars.

Prunus (Rosaceae) includes many commercially important fruit crop species that exhibit self-incompatibility (SI), including sweet cherry (P. avium L.), Japanese apricot (P. mume Sieb. et Zucc.), Japanese plum (P. salicina Lindl.), apricot (P. armeniaca L.), and almond (P. dulcis [Mill.] D. A. Webb.). These species exhibit S-ribonuclease-based gametophytic SI, which prevents self-pollen tube growth in the pistil. The successful production of self-fertilized progeny accomplished by artificially overcoming the SI barrier has not been reported in Prunus, but self-compatible (SC) Prunus mutants with mutated pollen S determinant S haplotype–specific F-box (SFB) or pollen modifier M-locus encoded glutathione S-transferase-like (MGST) genes have been identified and used as SC cultivars and breeding stocks. In this study, we suppressed translation of SFB or MGST mRNA in self-pollen using antisense oligonucleotides to overcome the SI barrier in P. avium, P. mume, and P. salicina. Over the three years of the study, we obtained self-fertilized progeny of SI Japanese plum ‘Sordum’ only when SFB or MGST was knocked down. We also found that the average length of the self-pollinated pollen tube in the pistil of ‘Sordum’ was increased following treatment with an antisense oligonucleotide against SFB. This is the first report regarding the successful production of selfed progeny of Prunus obtained by disrupting SI. Our findings also provide evidence that the loss of function of SFB or MGST in Prunus pollen leads to SC.

'Sleep' behavior of butterflies at night was observed in 46 individuals belonging to 13 species in 1999 at my house garden. The main sleeping place of Papilio xuthus receives little sunshine, having a high humidity, and is windless compared with the other areas. This species slept hanging from a twig of the tree or at the top of a grass stem 60-150cm high, and usually kept its wings closed. I observed two cases that seemed to be the same individual spending two nights on the same spot. Argyreus hyperbius slept with its wings closed and selected a twig 150-200cm high. This species probably spent two nights at the same spot like P. xuthus. Therefore, I believe that those species had an exact memory of the sleeping place of the previous night, hence they came back to sleep the next evening. Eurema hecabe always slept with its wings closed and hanging from the underside of a leaf of short grass. They preferred a rather dry and open place. Zizeeria maha always slept with both wings closed at the top of a short grass stem 40-50cm high.

Seven elderly cases with reversible electrocardiographic changes simulating acute myocardial infarction in the absence of gross myocardial infarction on postmortem examination were observed following the blood transfusion. The underlying diseases were cancer of gastrointestinal tract or gall bladder in 4, gastric ulcer in 2, and 1 of pseudomembranous enterocolitis. The electrocardiogram revealed the abnormal Q waves with monophasic ST elevation and following coronary T inversion. These findings lasted only for 2 to 7 days and returned to the previous normal tracings. The hematocrit was elevated from 28.9 to 47.7 after the blood transfusion of 800 to 1, 800ml. The disseminated intravascular coagulation was shown in 5 cases. GOT levels were within normal ranges except 1 case.Pathological findings in cases with recent electrocardiographic changes were characterized by the mural thromboses, extending into the myocardium through the Thebesian vein. The focal small necroses of the adjacent myocardium or around the thrombosis of small vessels were also observed. In the later phase the fine interstitial fibrosis took place after the resorption of the thrombi and necrotic foci.From these clinical and pathological findings we proposed a new concept of reversible myocardial infarction induced from the hypercoagulability, disseminated intravascular coagulation, and elevated hematocrit.

A new type of compact deep–UV micro–Raman spectroscopy system was developed with a single monochromator, front–illuminated cooled charge–coupled device, and 266 nm nanosecond pulsed laser to overcome laser–induced fluorescence from surrounding minerals and organic material. Deep–UV micro–Raman spectroscopy is particularly useful in analyzing the fluorescence–free Raman spectra of dispersed low–maturity carbonaceous material and coal, although deep–UV excitation lasers may cause serious degradation and laser–induced heating of the sample surface, especially in microanalysis. The laser–induced damage threshold for fully ordered graphite and coal (VRr = ~ 0.5%) was assessed to facilitate the acquisition of accurate Raman spectra with a spot size of ~ 1 µm. For fully ordered graphite, there was no serious degradation of the sample surface with an energy fluence of 0.10–2.50 J cm−2. Some sample surfaces became black at higher fluences of 1.96–2.50 J cm−2, suggesting irreversible damage by deep–UV lasers. The Raman shift of the G band after measurement involves a downshift of 1.7–7.4 cm−1 relative to other spectra obtained at low laser fluences of <0.34 J cm−2. The G band full width at half maximum (FWHM) also increased with increasing laser fluence. Serious degradation of polished coal surfaces occurs at even lower laser fluences of 0.34–2.50 J cm−2. The degree of change in Raman parameters such as the D and G band FWHM depends on the laser fluence during measurements. Heating and damage by a deep–UV laser is greater than that by visible lasers. Laser fluences of <0.16 and 0.34 J cm−2 are required for accurate Raman analyses of dispersed carbonaceous material in sedimentary rocks and fully ordered graphite in metasediment, respectively.

アラビア語、ペルシア語、トルコ語、ヘブライ語など中東の諸言語で、中東地域で生産される作品のみならず、中東に歴史的出自を持つ者によって、欧米など地理的中東世界を超えた地域で、英語、仏語、独語、伊語などの西洋の諸言語で生み出される作品をも対象に、文学や映画などさまざまなテクストに現れた「ワタン(祖国)」表象の超域的な分析を通して、「ワタン」を軸に、近現代中東世界の社会的・歴史的ありようとそのダイナミズムの一端と、国民国家や言語文化の境界を越えた共通性および各国・各地域の固有性を明らかにすると同時に、近現代中東の人々の経験を、人間にとって祖国とは何かという普遍的問いに対する一つの応答として提示した。

扁桃は, 口腔や鼻腔より侵入する抗原を摂取し, その抗原情報を認識し, それらの抗原侵襲から生体を防御することを主要な機能としている.口蓋扁桃の陰窩は粘膜表面から洞状に陥凹, 分岐することにより, 広い面積で抗原と接触し, それらに対する能率的な免疫反応を誘導することが, 想像されている.陰窩を被覆する上皮細胞は網目構造をとり, その間に多数のT, Bリンパ球が介在していて, リンパ上皮共生関係にある.この上皮細胞には.リンパ装置の濾胞域の樹状細胞と類似した細胞膜抗原 (MHC class II抗原, DC54, CD106, CD21, CD80/86) が発現されている.これらのことから陰窩上皮細胞は, 陰窩の抗原を摂取し, 抗原提示とT細胞の活性化, B細胞の分化とclonal expansion, 成熟を司っているものと考えられる.

A method for the determination of furfurals (furfural and 5-hydroxymethylfurfural) in aged sake by gas chromatography was established. Five ml of sample was reacted with 4 ml of 2, 4-dinitro phenylhydrazine (2, 4-DNP) solution for 30 min at 80 °C. The solution was shaken with 30ml chloroform. The chloroform layer was concentrated to dryness in vacuo, and dissolved in 0.5 ml of 0.16% methyl-2-furfural-2, 4-DNP (internal Standard) in ethyl acetate. One μl of the solution was analyzed using a gas chromatograph (Shimadzu GC-14 A). This method will ensure determination of furfurals in aged sake with 104-108% recovery.The results of analysis on 44 samples aged for 3-20 years were: furfural 2-4 ppm, and 5-hydroxymethylfurfural 1-289 ppm. Furfurals were considered to be one of the characteristic components of aged sake.
