2005年1月から2006年12月迄の2年間に96施設から小児細菌性髄膜炎246症例 (男児138, 女児108) が報告された.年齢別では28日以下が25例, 1カ月~12カ月が114例, 1歳以上は107例であった.原因菌はH.influenzaeが136例と最も多く, 次いでS.pneumoniae 48例, streptococcus agalactiae (GBS) 19例, Escherichia coli6例の順で, GBS, E.coliは低年齢での発症が多く, H.influenzaeは多くは4カ月~5歳に分布していた.S.pneumoniaeは3カ月~12歳に分布していた.H.influenzae, S.pneumoniaeともに耐性化が進み, H.influenzaeは2003年に70.4%, S.pneumoniaeは2004年に83.0%と耐性株が高い割合を占めていたが, 今回の調査では, H.influenzaeは2005年65.2%, 2006年59.3%, S.pneumoniaeは2005年71%, 2006年69.3%と若干減少の方向を示した.細菌性髄膜炎の初期治療に使用した抗菌薬の種類は, 4カ月未満では, 従来の標準的治療法とされているAmpicillin+セフェムならびにカルバペネム+β-lactamの2剤を併用した症例が多く, H.influenzaeやS.pneumoniaeが原因細菌として多くなる4カ月以降に関しては, 耐性菌を考慮したカルバペネム+セフェムの併用が増加し, ampicillin+セフェムをはるかに上回る使用頻度であった.

アニメPSYCHO-PASS内での完全で完璧に統制された法システムであるというシビュラシステムが一般の人々に受け入れられる可能性を手続き的公正という観点から進化心理学的な解釈を交え研究した。シビュラシステムによる即時・即決・即罰的な法システムは人間が行う裁判より分配的公正という点では圧倒的に優位に立つが,今までに研究されてきた手続き的公正の概念では人々の理解を簡単には得られない可能性が高い。先行研究では分配的公正を達成する為に手続き的公正が利用されると主張する道具モデルや手続き的公正そのものが価値を持つと主張する集団価値モデルなどが提唱されてきたが,本研究では手続き的公正は分配的公正の代わりに用いられると仮定し,さらには進化的適応環境に培われた認知容量を超えると人々は分配的公正と手続き的公正のどちらも重視しなくなると予測する。オンラインアンケートを用いて人々が異なるシチュエーションにおいて分配的公正と手続き的公正のどちらをより重視するか調査した結果,想定される集団サイズが増加するにつれて分配的公正と手続き的公正のどちらにも無関心になることが確認された。

本研究では,食品媒介性感染症として世界中で多発するカンピロバクターがヒト生体内での感染過程で顕す遺伝子発現及び腸内細菌叢の動態を発症患者由来検体を研究対象にプロファイル化し,疫学情報及び原因菌株のゲノム特性と融合を通じ,本菌感染に伴う病態発現の分子基盤に係る基礎知見の集積を図ることを目的としている。ヒト腸管環境において本菌が顕す病態形成機構は依然として不明な点が多く、主たる病原因子の同定並びに微生物間クロストークに関する分子解明,ひいては予防治療に資する標的分子の特定や腸管環境下の細菌叢調節を通じた感染制御策の構築等へと波及することが期待される。

生物は,ナノサイズの分子やタンパク質から,サブミクロンレベルの細胞やバクテリア,ミリサイズの昆虫や魚類,そしてメータサイズのイルカやクジラまで,11 桁にも亘る広大なスケール間に多様な形態,複雑な運動・機能が常にまわりの環境に適応し淘汰・進化する.生物の運動は,各スケールにおいて船や飛行機の人工物のような‘直線的推進’ではなく,横の運動,いわゆる波動によるものが殆どであり,これらの最適化された運動機構が非定常性と波動性の調和によるものと考えられる.本稿では,著者がこの生物流動波というコンセプトを導入し,新しい視点に立って,遊泳・飛翔生物の運動における非定常性と波動性を考察し,生物運動メカニズムに対して統一的に取り扱う考え方について述べる.

国の第4期がん対策推進基本計画では、職域のがん対策、特にがん検診の推進が重視され、受診率の向上や精密検査受診率の向上が課題となっている。一方で、制度上、事業者のがん検診実施はあくまで任意であり、またがん検診結果のような健康情報に関し、個人情報保護法、労働法等に照らした適正な取扱いについて必ずしも見解の一致が見られるわけではない状況にある。このため本稿では、職域のがん検診に関する現状を考察したうえで、健康情報の取扱いを中心に、現行法制度のもとでの課題解決のための論点や方向性を提示した。

A large tooth of a carnivorous dinosaur is reported as the first record from the Lower Cretaceous Kwanmon Group, northern Kyushu, Japan. The characters of the tooth, such as fine serration, rugose longitudinal surface ornamentation and compressed shape, are significant, and a new genus and species, Wakinosaurus satoi is proposed. The genus is allocated to the Family Megalosauridae tentatively.

From the 992 samples of culture extracts of microorganisms isolated from soil in Japan, we found that the extract of Streptomyces sp. no. 226 inhibited Orobanche minor seed germination without significantly affecting the seed germination of Trifolium pratense and the growth of Aspergillus oryzae and Escherichia coli. Using ESI-MS, 1H-NMR, and 13C-NMR, we identified the active compound as cycloheximide. Cycloheximide had half-maximum inhibitory concentrations of 2.6 ng/mL for the inhibition of seed germination of O. minor and 2.5 µg/mL for that of the conidial germination of A. oryzae. Since cycloheximide is known to inhibit translation by interacting with ribosomal protein L28 (RPL28) in yeast, we investigated whether RPL protein of O. minor plays a critical role in the inhibition of O. minor seed germination. Our data suggested that O. minor RPL27A was not sensitive to cycloheximide by comparing it to the strain expressing S. cerevisiae RPL28. These findings suggest the presence of an unidentified mechanism by which cycloheximide hinders O. minor seed germination.

無気肺・排痰困難に対して標準的な呼吸リハビリテーションの効果が乏しく,トランポリンを用いた運動療法が有効であった2例を経験した.1例は原発性肺癌に対して右下葉切除術を施行し,無気肺が遷延した症例,1例は重症肺炎発症後に排痰困難となり,呼吸不全及び呼吸困難が残存した症例である.この2例に排痰手技を含む標準的な呼吸リハビリテーションを施行するも,改善は乏しかった.そこで,トランポリン運動を試みたところ,著明な喀痰の自己喀出を得て,画像所見及び低酸素血症の改善を認めた.トランポリン運動が腹部臓器を介して横隔膜の受動運動を誘発し,換気を促進させたことで痰の喀出が得られたものと推察された.

The characteristic of gap for every specifications, such as a floor, a wall, a roof, an opening, etc. which constitutes structure skeleton in buildings of wood frame construction system, has been grasped quantitatively. Furthermore, a comparison with the result depended on survey of the airtight performance in buildings that have already been built was performed, and the validity of a measurement result and the extendibility to a real residence were examined.

最近, わが国でも食品中のトランス脂肪について, 食品メーカー, 小売業者および消費者はそれぞれの立場から大きな関心を寄せている。日本人の平均的なトランス脂肪酸の摂取量について2007年6月に食品安全委員会から, 日本人1人, 1日当たりの摂取量は, 積み上げ方式で0.7g (0.3エネルギー%), 生産量からの推計では13g (0.6gエネルギー%) であると報告された。後者の推計値は1999年の生産量からの推計よりも0.26g (0.1エネルギー%) 減少した。この量は西洋諸国およびWHO/FAOおよびFDAの勧'告値よりも低い。これは, 伝統的な日本食は総体的に脂肪量が少ないからである。日本では現時点におけるTFAの摂取量は少ないので重要な問題ではないが, 若い年代層では西洋型の食事を好むので, 注意することが必要である。

Iwana-charr, Salvelinus leucomaenis is not indigenous to Kyushu Island western Japan. In 1971, this species was transplanted to a commercial hatchery by the Haki River (32°32'N, 130°57'E), a tributary of the upper reaches of the Kuma River System. Some of the charr individuals escaped from the hatchery's holding pond and came into the stream. Fifty-one were collected in the lower reaches near the hatchery but none in the upper reaches during 1994-1996. The collected sample consisted of individuals belonging to plural age classes. In addition, we observed some spawning activities of the charr in November every year during 1994-1997 and found some eggs in the redd. Our findings suggest that reproduction of the charr occurs in some tributaries of the upper reaches of the Kuma River and their distribution is expanding downstream. They also suggest that dams without fishways prevent the charr from migrating upstream.

The"Marketplace of Ideas"theory, articulated and explicated by Justice Holmes and Justice Brandeis of the Supreme Court in the early 20th century, has played a crucial role in the development of the free speech theory in America. The essential scheme of this theory, called the"Holmes/Brandeis tradition", serves as a basic framework for free speech thought even at the present time. However, this theory has some problematic tendencies: an underestimation of speech harm(harm done by speach) and belief in a rigid division of speech and conduct. Indeed, these tendencies are the products of the factual situation unique to that time, but they came to be called into question, as the scope of the protection under the First Amendment was expanded to include"peripheral"speech, which in the Holmes/Brandeis view used to be outside this protection. Against these tendencies, a new trend of criticism arose in the last decade. The critics in the 1980's advocated the need to trim the margin of free speech protection, claiming that speech does harm to the weak such as women and racial minorities, and the free speech system works to perpetuate the current disparity of power in the private sphere. To ameliorate the status quo, they call for speech regulation as a corrective measure. Inspired by this criticism, there came a series of movements to"reconstruct"the"Marketplace of Ideas"theory around 1990. The basic feature of them, exemplified in the works of Bollinger, Sunstein and Strauss, lies in the search for possibility that there might be some middle course, superior to either the"Holmes/Brandeis"approach or the approach of the critics of the 1980's. They squarely care about the speech harm and reconceptualize free speech by attenuating the sharp line drawn between speech and conduct. This enterprise is still in the embryonic stage and one needs to follow the further development for an evaluation. But at least for now, the"reconstruction"can be seen as a worthy one, carving out a new way in free speech thinking.
